Body Language

My nephew Felipe
It is known that our body "talks" about how we feel all the time. Not only the gestures of our hands and arms but also the way we look at something or someone can reveal a lot about us. This text is about some advantages and disadvantages of understanding body language.
Few years ago, I read a magazine article which said that  babies usually stare at their mothers before doing something because they are waiting for their approval or permition. Babies may not be able to speak, although they can understand that a smile means 'yes' and a frown means 'no'. In my opinion, childhood is the time when everybody starts to use body language. In addition, it is also our first step into the long process of learning how to communicate. One of the advantages of understanding body language is being able to express and understand wishes, feelings, opinions, expectations and requests without  speaking.
It is the same case when you know someone for a long time and, in some occasions, it looks as if words are unnecessary to understand each other. A wink, a giggle, a frown and done... It is a sort of easily-understandable sign language. I have a sister who is only two years older than me and I can tell you for sure that we had a lot of experience in it as children. On the other hand, we could never lie to each other because it was really obvious to notice.
Understanding body expression can also be useful when you are learning a foreign language abroad. Some gestures may be different compared to the place you are from, but they can definitely help you in many situations.
More than an ordinary reaction, body expression has great value as an instrument of communication. Let's use it.
